Ambassador’s Household: Chef

The Australian Ambassador to the Netherlands is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join his household staff as the resident Chef.  The position is an integral part of the Ambassador’s representative capabilities and furthering Australia’s interests in the Netherlands. 

 

The position is full time employed directly by the Ambassador.  Working within a small team alongside two other colleagues and under limited supervision, the successful applicant must be able to work collaboratively and is responsible for all aspects of food preparation and delivery in relation to the Ambassador’s meals (private and formal) and official events.

The successful applicant should be proficient across a broad range of culinary skills, with knowledge of different cuisines, specialty ingredients, baking and patisserie. A working knowledge of English is required.

Food preparation

  • Work with the Ambassador, his Personal Assistant, Maid and Butler to coordinate meals in accordance with relevant dietary requirements, ingredient themes and financial scopes.
  • Prepare meals for the Ambassador;
  • Develop menus and prepare meals (both formal and informal) for the Ambassador’s guests;
  • Develop menus and prepare catering for receptions and events hosted by the Ambassador;
  • Prepare meals and light refreshments for official visitors as required.

Kitchen management

  • Ensure that the commercial kitchen; store rooms and official areas of the residence are maintained in a clean and efficient manner.
  • Monitoring kitchen equipment and reporting maintenance issues;
  • Stock control and procurement of ingredients;
  • Recommendations for and management of official alcohol stock;

Event Coordination and General household

  • Liaise with Ambassador’s PA regarding dinners and events the Ambassador is hosting;
  • Liaise with Ambassador’s PA to ensure purchases for dinners and events are undertaken in accordance with financial management requirements;
  • Assist Butler in the preparation of residence for events being hosted by the Ambassador (movement/rearranging of furniture, coordination of decorations, general presentation at the residence);
  • Assist in arrangements for the Ambassador’s houseguests;
  • Supervision and coordination of maintenance/repair staff;
  • Assist Butler and Maid in management of the household where necessary.

Other duties as directed by the Ambassador.

 

The gross salary is EUR3,300 a month (neg.) for a 40 hour work week.

All employee contributions to social security and income tax are to be paid by the staff member.

All overtime to be taken as time off in lieu.

There are 20 days of leave per year and an 8% annual bonus paid in December.

The Ambassador will also contribute towards the social security funds required by the employer. 

Working uniforms will be reimbursed by the Ambassador.
