Consular and Public Diplomacy Officer

The Embassy of Australia in The Hague is seeking to recruit a highly motivated person to undertake a range of duties as the Consular and Public Diplomacy Officer.

 

Duties

As a member of the administrative team reporting to the Second Secretary and Consul, the position is responsible for providing Consular services to Australian Citizens as well as developing and managing the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy program.  The position also performs the duties of back up for Passport services and the Accountant. 

Consular duties include:

  • assisting Australian citizens in difficulty in the Netherlands in accordance with the Australian Consular Charter;
  • providing advice and assistance to consular, passport and notarial clients;
  • contributing to and maintaining the Embassy’s Crisis Management Plan and Australian travel advice for the Netherlands and other reporting/policy documents;
  • contributing to the Embassy’s business continuity and consular crises response with the guidance of Australian based staff.

Public diplomacy duties include:

  • promoting the profile and image of Australia in the Netherlands
  • devising and implementing the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy program including the organisation of events, receptions, commemorations
  • implementing and monitoring the Embassy’s social media strategy.

 

Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • providing Passport services to Australian Citizens as back up Passports Officer.
  • undertaking administrative and financial duties as back up Accountant.
  • supporting arrangements for VIP visits
  • Other duties as required. (ie policy research as required).

Selection Criteria

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in client service;
  2. Superior problem-solving and negotiating skills;
  3. Advanced oral and written communication skills and liaison abilities (English and Dutch);
  4. High level organisational and logistical skills including event management experience;
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and harmoniously within a small team;
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter ;
  7. Proficiency in SAP Financial Management Software desirable;
  8. Valid Driver’s licence desirable;

The position is at the LE4 and is available in February 2016 for an initial one-year fixed contract.  The full-time salary per month at commencement is €3,941 gross on the basis of a 37.5hr working week.  Annual benefits include 8 percent holiday bonus and 25 days leave.  Engagement is contingent upon the successful applicant being able to present a positive police clearance form (VOG).
